Documents authenticating the swim from Rangitoto Island to Cheltenham on the New Zealand mainland, on 21 January 1931

 

The following handwritten statement has been typed for ease of reading:

We the undersigned hereby certify as follows:-

(1) That on Wednesday the 21st day of January 1931 Miss Mercedes Gleitze successfully swam, entirely by her own efforts without any assistance or aid whatsoever unofficial or otherwise, from Rnagitoto Island to Cheltenham Beach entering the water at One pm and landing at……….

(2) That we were personally present throughout such swim from entrance to water to landing.

(3) That we are not financially or otherwise in any permitting manner interested in the performance by Miss Gleitze.
